BLACK MOON (the dark side of musick)

DEATH IN JUNE
ROSE CLOUDS OF HOLOCAUST

Original Issue: 1995 N.E.R. ( NER BAD VC CD 38)

Reissue:
2001 N.E.R. ( NER BAD VC CD 38)

Margot-meter: 4,5 moons / 5

1. Lord Winter
2. God's Golden Sperm
3. This Omen Filled Season
4. Symbols of The Sun
5. Jerusalem The Black
6. Luthers Army
7. 13 Years of Carrion
8. The Accidental Protege
9. Rose Clouds of Holocaust
10. Lifebooks

I KNOW THAT THIS COULD BE QUESTIONABLE BUT THIS IS MY FAVORITE DIJ WORK EVER! MOSTLY ACOUSTIC MUSICK, SOMBER VOICE, DAVID TIBET PRESENCE AND ASTOUNDING LYRICS...HERE'S A FEW EXAMPLES:

Like Luther's Army
And Abel's Brother
I Woke to Find
Only to Smother
An Angel Fat
At Satan's Feast
Where Falsehood, Childhood, and
Loneliness Cease
---------------------------------------
Symbols of The Sun
Symbols of The Snow
For Those Who Go Beyond
For Those Who Go Below
If Blood is Another
Colour of Hope
Then What Is Love
What Is Love?
---------------------------------------
Paranoia Is An Icy Start
But a Start Nonetheless
A Convenient Memory
Is A Gift From God
A Gift From Life
And Sodomy
---------------------------------------
Festivals end
As festivals must
From the hooded crows of Rome
To the falcons of Zagreb
Oh, mother victim of Jesus
Lie down in Sydney's dust
For, festivals end
As festivals must
---------------------------------------

from Amazon:

Rose Clouds of Holocaust is, in my opinion, the best Death In June album -ever- released. Along with others, this album features guest vocals from Rose McDowall and David Tibet.

Very dark, yet peaceful enough to put you in a trance leading you towards the valley of never never land. It's another work of art that flows well from start to finish, with soothing acoustic guitars, other atmospheric goodies, and Douglas P.'s almost monotone voice - this is not only just a great album, but it's a MUST HAVE.

If you're a DIJ fan, you have it.

Possibly my favorite DIJ CD too. I am one of the few odd balls out there though that loved All Pigs Must Die. Hurdy Gurdy Baby!
Invade me anytime!

This is my favorite of theirs (or, I guess, his) too. The only thing it is missing is Break the Black Ice (the Rose McDowall version), which is possibly my favorite individual DIJ song.

I'm a fan of Current 93 so this will probably be a good way to get into DIJ, considering I haven't heard anything by them until now. Thanks.

thanks margot, like dij in select doses, kinda like diptheria injections.. prefer his more mellowed out to the discordant stuff, ditto with current 93, some of it a bit on the dark melodramatic side for my tastes.. could also lump nick cave in there - with the exception of "let love in" - however i've heard you praise this dij album before so i'm sure it's up there.... p.s. here's an odd one, any al stewart? maybe not in your cloud vector, but past present and future is a truly unique album... thanks for the gypsy vibes, cheers, anthony

Agreed, this is the best DIJ. I tend to prefer Douglas P in small doses, too, much more preferring the work of David Tibet, Tony Wakeford, Michael Cashmore and Patrick Leagas (would love to have more of his stuff which I find elusive at best), but when I want to hear his stark poetry, this is certainly the place to go.

Here's another WSD neofolk related request for you:

I'm liking this more than I expected. I've kind of dismissed DIJ as something I liked when I was younger. I guess I have some backcataloging to do.

Merci Margot ..
